Business Setup Influencers Win Trust First. Your Move

Business setup influencers have changed where the first conversation happens — and it is no longer in your office or your WhatsApp. By the time a founder messages you, they have often spent evenings with a face on YouTube walking them through free zones, visa maths and banking horror stories. That face answered their beginner questions with infinite patience, for free, at midnight. You are not competing with another consultancy for this person’s trust. You are arriving after trust has already been given to someone who has never seen their file. Here is what that means, and the ground still available.

The moment it happens

Setup influencers earn trust before you even say hello.

A prospect calls, and within two minutes you realise they have arrived pre-educated — half right, half dangerously wrong. “I saw a video that said mainland is a waste of money for my case.” You spend the consultation not advising but un-teaching.

Later you search the topic yourself and watch the view counts climb on videos made by people who will never sit across a compliance officer with this client. The audience you want is in a classroom you do not teach in.

Why this keeps happening

The pattern has a name in marketing law, and it is not “content is king.” Al Ries and Jack Trout open The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing with the Law of Leadership: it is better to be first than it is to be better. The mind gives the first occupant a permanence that later, better arrivals almost never dislodge. The influencer got into your prospect’s evenings first; your deeper expertise is arriving second, and second place in the mind is a steep discount.

Notice what the trust is actually made of: repetition and availability, not credentials. Hours of watching one face answer basic questions builds a familiarity no single consultation can match — regardless of whose advice would survive a real compliance review.

Where does that leave your first conversation? Many owners tell us the qualification call increasingly starts inside the influencer’s frame — the client’s jurisdiction preference already formed before any facts about their case were considered. We offer that as the pattern we hear, not a measured statistic; your own last five consultations are the honest test.

The prescription

The same law that explains the problem contains the strategy. If you cannot be first in the broad space — “Dubai company setup explained” is taken, many times over — the law says: be first somewhere specific. Leadership is available in any space narrow enough that no one has claimed it, and narrow spaces are where your real expertise lives anyway.

Influencers must stay broad; breadth is what grows a channel. That is your opening. They cannot afford to own “what happens when the bank says no,” or “setup for e-commerce sellers shipping from the UK,” or “the real cost of a second visa, case by case.” You can.

Worked example: a consultancy lists the ten questions asked most in its actual client chats, searches each, and finds one with no consistent, credible answer online — say, bank rejections and what to do next. It publishes one plain answer a week on that single topic, for eight weeks, and links the series in every first reply. Sixty days later, it is the first face in the one room where the worried, serious buyers gather. Small room, but yours.

What to do this week

  1. Pull the ten most-asked questions from your real WhatsApp threads — verbatim, in the client’s words.
  2. Search each one. Note where the answers are thin, generic, or wrong.
  3. Pick the single unclaimed question closest to your strongest expertise. One.
  4. Record a plain two-minute answer — phone camera is fine — and commit to one a week for eight weeks, all on that topic.
