Cheap business setup ads set the stage your honest quote walks onto. When the market’s headline number is a “from” price polished to its smallest possible form, a complete, no-surprises quotation reads as expensive — before a single word of it is judged on merit. If your pricing is honest and it still feels like a disadvantage, this article is about why that feeling is manufactured by the category’s advertising, and how the Law of the Opposite turns the anchor you cannot beat into the contrast you can own.
The moment it happens
Honest prices shouldn’t feel like a disadvantage. Yet every competitor ad makes them seem that way.
You are scrolling in the evening and there it is again — a licence price you could not deliver at breakeven, in seventy-point font, with a countdown timer. You know what that number excludes. The person seeing it for the first time does not.
For a moment you consider running the same kind of ad. That moment is the whole trap.
Why this keeps happening
The anchor is not imaginary, and it is not only rogue operators setting it. Dubai’s official investment portal, Dubai for Business, presents free zone entry costs from roughly AED 5,000–6,000 — and free zones themselves run limited-time package promotions; Meydan Free Zone’s discount campaigns are a visible example. When the jurisdiction’s own marketing leads with an entry-level number, every consultancy’s headline gets measured against it.
In the 97 category ads we coded for this research, the price-led “from” offer was the pattern we saw again and again. A “from” price wins the first glance because it has one job: be the smallest true number available. What it structurally cannot do is include everything a real setup needs for a real profile — visas, deposits, approvals specific to your activity.
So the honest quoter suffers a timing problem, not a truth problem: your complete number meets their partial number in a feed where nobody has context yet.
The prescription
Al Ries and Jack Trout’s Law of the Opposite, from The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing, addresses exactly this position: where the leader is strong, do not imitate — study the strength and present the prospect with its opposite. Be different, not slightly better. Pepsi never beat Coca-Cola’s heritage; it ran as the choice of a new generation, the opposite of heritage.
The “from” price’s strength is smallness. Its built-in opposite is completeness. So do not answer “From AED 5,750” with “From AED 5,400” — that contest is rigged in favour of whoever hides the most. Answer with the number that does not grow.
Worked example: your ad reads — “Our quote looks bigger because it’s finished. One number, everything your licence, visas and filings actually need — in writing before you pay a dirham. Ask any ‘from’ price what happens to it by the end.” Then the landing page carries an itemised sample quote. You have not called anyone a liar; you have made completeness the visible attribute, and let the anchor advertise your difference for you.
What to do this week
- Take your last three real client bills and build one honest “sample total” for a common profile — the number that did not grow.
- Rewrite one ad or profile headline around completeness, in your own words.
- Create a one-page “questions to ask any setup quote” sheet; keep every line verifiable and free of accusations.
- When a prospect cites a cheaper ad, ask one question: “Is that the full amount you’ll pay, in writing?” — then go quiet.
Where Kamai Ads fits (only if you want help)
We do not promise leads — nobody honestly can. What we build is the positioning that makes honest pricing legible in a discount feed, then ads that prove it. Small first step: the 48-hour marketing audit, 1,000 AED — message us on WhatsApp.
