Clients Compare Consultants Before They Message You

Clients comparing business setup consultants is not a stage of your funnel — it is the condition your funnel operates in. By the time a first WhatsApp message reaches you, the sender has typically browsed several firms, collected a price or two, and formed a shortlist you were lucky to make. That changes what a first reply is for. You are not opening a conversation; you are entering one already in progress, being scored against answers the prospect already holds. Firms that reply as if they are the prospect’s first contact — “kindly share your requirements” — lose the comparison before knowing they were in one. The fix is a first reply built for a comparison-stage buyer.

The moment it happens

Every enquiry has already compared you with three or four competitors before you ever read the first WhatsApp message.

The message looks innocent: “Hi, price for free zone company with 2 visas?” You read it as an opening. It is actually a checkpoint — the same message sent, more or less, to a handful of firms this week, some of whom answered yesterday.

Your reply will not be read on its own. It will be read next to theirs.

Why this keeps happening

The comparison behaviour is publicly observable. On UAE founder forums, buyers openly describe comparing several consultancies before choosing — and they compare on specific axes: jurisdiction advice, pricing, banking support, and transparency. Some even publish their comparison notes for the next founder to reuse. This is not a suspicious minority; it is the market’s standard operating procedure.

Structurally, WhatsApp made it inevitable. When contacting five firms costs five taps, parallel enquiry becomes free — so the scarce resource shifts from the buyer’s attention to the quality of each firm’s first answer. Meanwhile most firms still run first replies designed for a different era: gather requirements, schedule a call, reveal nothing until the meeting.

The honest limit: you cannot know exactly whom you are being compared against, or on which axis this particular buyer weighs heaviest. You can know the four standard axes — and answer them without being asked.

The prescription

Drew Eric Whitman’s Cashvertising Online checklist is blunt about openings: skip the warm-up and lead with the biggest benefit the prospect gets. For a comparison-stage buyer, the biggest benefit is not your history or a meeting link. It is the thing four other firms are withholding: a straight answer.

A worked example — the first reply rewritten:

  • Before: “Thank you for contacting us! Kindly share your name, nationality, and requirements so our consultant can call you.”
  • After: “Happy to give you a real answer. For a two-visa free zone setup, the honest all-in first-year cost depends on two things — the zone that fits your activity and your visa timing — and I can give you the exact figure with those two answered. Renewal cost stated up front too, since that is where surprises usually hide. What does the company do?”

The second reply answers the actual question’s shape, names the comparison axis where competitors are weakest (renewal transparency), and asks one question that moves the conversation forward. It respects a buyer who has done homework — and being the firm that respects the homework is, on the forums, exactly what gets recommended.

What to do this week

  1. Audit your last ten first replies. Count how many gave information versus requested it.
  2. Rewrite your first-reply template to lead with a straight answer plus the one question you genuinely need.
  3. Prepare honest one-screen answers for the four comparison axes: jurisdiction fit, true pricing, banking reality, and what is in writing.
  4. Add renewal cost to every first quote — the transparency axis is won there.
  5. Time your responses for a week. In a parallel-enquiry market, the answer that arrives first is read first.
