Google Ads costs for business setup leads have been moving one way: up. Owners across the category pay more per click than they did two years ago, and the click itself guarantees nothing — it may become a client, a price-shopper, or silence. The uncomfortable part is that the auction is only half the story. What a click costs is set by competition; what a click is worth is set by your message. This article is about the second half — the part you control — and a specific reason so many expensive setup-consultancy clicks die on the landing page.
The moment it happens
Every Google click feels more expensive, and you still don’t know if it’ll become a client.
It is month-end. You open the ads dashboard the way you open a utility bill — braced. Spend is up again, cost per enquiry is up again, and the enquiries themselves feel thinner than the numbers suggest.
You know Google brings the highest-intent searchers you can buy. That is exactly why stopping feels impossible, and why continuing feels like paying rent on a machine you do not fully trust.
Why this keeps happening
The structural cause has two layers. The first is auction economics: many firms bidding on the same handful of commercial keywords. Our working read of the category — and what owners consistently tell us — is that click-price inflation ranks among the biggest acquisition frustrations for setup consultancies, precisely because founders view Google leads as the highest purchase intent available. Everyone believes the same thing, so everyone bids on the same terms. We state that as a strong hypothesis about the market, not a measured statistic.
The second layer is the one you can change: what happens after the click. When fifty firms buy the same keyword and show the searcher near-identical pages — licence types, package tables, “free consultation” — the searcher has no reason to engage with yours specifically. You paid a premium for their attention and then gave them nothing to hold it. The click was expensive; the message made it worthless.
The honest limit: nobody outside Google can tell you exactly where CPCs go next. The auction is not in your control. The story is.
The prescription
Donald Miller’s StoryBrand framework describes something called a story gap: the tension between a person and something they want. Open a gap — name a desire clearly — and attention locks on until the gap closes, the way an unfinished tune demands its last note. Fail to define what the customer wants, and they have no reason to engage at all.
Most setup-consultancy ads never open a gap. “Company formation in Dubai — packages from AED 5,750” states a service and a price. It names nothing the reader wants; it assumes the want and skips to the invoice.
A worked example. Instead of “Business Setup in Dubai — Free Consultation,” try: “A UAE company that banks, sponsors your visa and survives its first audit — set up once, correctly.” That sentence opens a gap (the reader wants that outcome and does not have it) — and the landing page’s only job is to show the path that closes it: three steps, real costs, what can go wrong and how you handle it. Now the click has somewhere to go. Same auction price, different conversion economics.
What to do this week
- Read your current ad and landing headline. Ask of each: does this name something the client wants, or something we sell?
- Write one sentence defining the outcome your best clients actually wanted — beyond the licence itself.
- Rebuild one landing page around that sentence: the want, the three-step path, the honest costs.
- Run it against your current page as a split test for two weeks before judging.
- Track cost per qualified conversation, not cost per click — it is the only number that reflects message quality.
Where Kamai Ads fits (only if you want help)
We do not promise cheaper clicks or a set number of leads — nobody honestly controls the auction.
